The loss of free one-hour car parking charges in Ikley is affecting footfall and business turnover at a time when business is seeing increased taxation.
It’s a perfect storm, and conservatives challenged and will continue to challenge removal of the free parking period. Pictured are petitioners, who made the case for a review of parking charges in Ilkley. To date there has been no response to the request to reinstate a free parking period despite evidence supplied by Ilkley businesses.

Quite frankly, the council is doing little to assist and promote business that’s so deperately needed across the district. This affects the whole community, if businesses close, jobs and tax and business rate revenues are lost. As I’m sure everyone is aware, it is extremely difficult to attract business back to the high street, so why create the issue in the first place.
I will continue to support and press for reinstatement of free parking, if only for 30 minutes.
