Ellar Ghyll Household Waste Centre

Ellar Ghyll refuse centre.

The answer to the question about Ellar Ghyll refuse centre is not subject to discussion or debate, residents of Burley and Menston can use this facility (see below).

In March this year, I submitted an FOI to Leeds Council about Ellar Ghyll Househole Waste Centre:

Subject: Use of Ellar Ghyll

Just a quick question. I live in Burley in Wharfedale, LS29 7, am I able to use the Ellar Ghyll site in Otley? Do you have an agreement with Bradford Council enabling us us use it as we live close to the district boundary?

If we can use it, do we need to present our Bradford Council household waste pass?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We would ask that Bradford Council Tax payers use the Bradford Recycling Centres.

That didn’t answer the first question asked, so I emailed again on March 24th:

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply. My understanding is that there is an agreement in place with Bradford Coucil that if a Leeds Council recycling centre is the closest, a Bradford resident can use it, and vice versa. So could you explicity confirm whether that agreement does or doesn’t exist?

Thanks in advance for your help. It’s just to get some clarity on the matter.

Regards,

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your e-mail.

There is a cross border arrangement with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council for approximately 5,000 properties in the Wharfedale ward to use our Otley Household Waste Recycling Centre only, no permit is necessary.

Please note that the cross-border arrangement with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council only applies to standard domestic type vehicles. This does not include trailers, commercial type vehicles or larges vehicles such as vans, pickup trucks, minibuses, campervans or motorhomes.
